“We [Apple] are going to take the biggest leap since the original iPhone has been released in the market”, Jobs said in front of thousands of software developers, technology experts, and reporters.

Another notable feature of this new smartphone is the improved battery life which can last 40 percent longer than its predecessors, allowing users to have enjoy a longer talk time.

These are the other improvements featured by iPhone 4: chassis which is 24 percent thinner than its previous model, iPhone 3GS; 5-megapixel built-in camera; video editing tools; and high-definition video recording capability.

Meanwhile, Jobs demonstrated a new feature called “FaceTime” which is a video chat program and called up Apple product designer Jonathan Ive so he can show to the audience how this feature works.

As a device for web-centric users, Jobs said the new iPhone can support Microsoft’s Bing and other major Internet search engine tools such as Yahoo! and Google [the latter remains the default search engine].

However, the phone’s screen display is probably the most notable feature as it can display 326 pixels per square inch, nearly four times than the pixels displayed by its predecessors.  Jobs called this feature as “something that will set the standard for displays for the next couple of years.”

The touchscreen smartphone will come at a starting price of $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB version and will be available on June 24 in US, France, Japan, Germany, and UK.

Meanwhile, Apple has sold more than 500 million iPhone after its released in 2007.
